Business Valuation in Jonestown

We work out a realistic sale price for your company, built from what it actually earns and what comparable businesses have closed at. There's no charge and it stays confidential. You get the figure, the reasoning behind it, and a check-in down the road so it stays current.

A Number You Can Plan Around

A business valuation answers one question: what would a real buyer pay for this company right now. Not what you hope, and not what a friend's business sold for. We look at what the business earns for its owner, how steady that is, and what similar businesses have actually sold for.

Most owners call us a year or two before they want out. That gives time to fix what drags the price down. Others call because a partner wants to leave, a buyer showed up out of nowhere, or they just want to know where they stand.

We don't hand you a figure and disappear. After the valuation we check back, tell you what moved since we last talked, and point out the few things that will keep the number up. Owners around Jonestown, Leander and Lago Vista use that as a yearly checkup on the biggest thing they own.

What the Valuation Covers

Recast financials

We rebuild your profit and loss to show what the business really earns for one owner. Your salary, personal car, one-time costs and other add-backs get pulled out and listed so a buyer can follow them.

Comparable sales

We compare your business to recent sales of companies with similar size, industry and earnings. That's where the multiple comes from, not from a rule of thumb.

Assets and inventory

Equipment, vehicles, inventory and any real estate get counted separately. Buyers and lenders look at each one differently, so we do too.

Risk review

We look at what makes a buyer nervous: one big customer, a short lease, a business that only runs when you're in the building. Each one is named plainly.

A walkthrough, not just a report

We sit down with you at our office or by video and go through every number. You can ask why, and we'll show you.

Follow-up check-ins

We check back after the valuation to see how the year is going and tell you which changes are helping the price.

Signs It's Time for a Valuation

  • You want out in the next few years

Retirement or a move is on the calendar. Knowing the number early gives you time to raise it before you list.

  • Someone made you an offer

An unsolicited offer is hard to judge without a baseline. A valuation tells you if it's fair, low or worth a serious look.

  • A partner wants to leave

Buyouts go smoother when both sides start from the same number. Our Partner Buyouts and Succession work starts here.

  • You and the numbers disagree

Revenue is up but you're not sure the business is worth more. Earnings, not sales, drive value, and we'll show you the difference.

  • You're planning an estate or family handoff

Passing a business on still needs a fair figure. It keeps family members and advisors on the same page.

How It Works, Start to Finish

  1. 1

    A short first call

You tell us about the business and why you want a number. Everything you share stays confidential.

  2. 2

    Gather the papers

We'll ask for your last three years of returns and income statements, the latest balance sheet, a copy of your lease and a list of your equipment. If your books are messy, send what you have and we'll sort through it together.

  3. 3

We do the math and talk it through

We recast the earnings, run the comparables and meet with you at our office or by phone and video. You see the range, the reasons and the risks.

  4. 4

    We check back

A few months later we follow up. If you're getting ready to sell, we update the number and talk about next steps like Exit Planning or listing with us.

What Moves the Value Up or Down

The valuation itself costs you nothing. If you later list with us, there's nothing to pay up front and no retainer to sign. You won't find fees tucked in later, and our fee comes only out of a closed sale, at the point the seller gets paid. Here's what tends to push your number one way or the other.

Earnings and their trend
Steady or rising owner earnings bring a higher multiple. A down year in the middle needs a good explanation.
How much it depends on you
If customers only call you and nobody else knows the system, buyers pay less. A trained manager and written procedures help.
Customer concentration
One client bringing in a big share of revenue is a risk a buyer will price in. A wider customer base is worth more.
Lease and location
A buyer wants to know they can stay put. A lease with years left and a renewal option supports the price.
Clean records
Books that match the tax returns make lenders comfortable. That widens the pool of buyers who can get financing.

Business Valuation Questions

Something not covered here? (512) 955-5966

How long does a valuation take?

Most of the time goes to gathering documents. Once we have your returns and statements, we can usually sit down and walk you through the results fairly quickly. Messier books take a bit longer, but we'll tell you up front what's missing.

Will my employees or customers find out?

No. The valuation is confidential and we work with you at our office or by phone and video, not at your place of business. Nobody hears about it unless you tell them.

Is this the same as a formal appraisal?

No. What we give you is a market-based estimate of the likely sale price, drawn from deals that actually closed. Some lenders, courts or tax matters require a formal appraisal done by an appraiser. If yours does, we'll tell you plainly.

Am I locked into selling through you once I have the number?

You're not. The valuation is yours to keep, with no strings tied to it. Some owners act on it within months, while others hold off for a few years and tighten up the business first. We'll still touch base from time to time, and when you're ready, our Sell a Business service picks up from the same numbers.

Does the building get valued with the business?

If you own the property, we value it separately from the business. Buyers often finance them differently. Our Business and Property Sales page covers how we handle selling both together.
